Journalist Bofta Yimam Wins Emmy Award For Excellence in Reporting

Award-winning journalist Bofta Yimam is thrilled to continue her career in the Mid-South. She hails from the MD/DC metropolitan area but most recently loaded up her U-haul from the Peach State. 

At 13WMAZ in Macon, Ga., Bofta kept viewers informed as the police/crime Reporter and Weekend Anchor. She exposed unfair discipline policies, botched investigations and Macon's gang problem. During her career, Bofta reported on everything from a law firm explosion caused by a disgruntled client to a police chief who bought off voters to win his election. She covered the 2010 gubernatorial race in Atlanta and tackled Federal court cases, including a local ponzi couple charged in connection with a million-dollar investment fraud.

Bofta's shared stories of survival and loss after EF-4 twisters, followed the execution of a triple-murderer and investigated massage parlors involved in possible sex trades, including trafficking of young girls. 

Some of her investigative pieces have led to policy changes, used as tools for law enforcement training nationwide and helped authorities lock up wanted criminals. 

She's received several awards for her work, including the 2011 Regional Edward R. Murrow Best Breaking News Story Award, the 2009 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award as part of 13WMAZ's "Crime and the City" coverage, and the 2008 Community Broadcasters Association Best Breaking News Story Award. 

Bofta began her career at WDNN-TV. Prior to that, she interned at WJLA-TV, Good Morning America and WHSV-TV. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park. 

When she's not in front of the camera, Bofta enjoys traveling, music, movies, exploring Memphis, trying new recipes and spending time with family/friends.
